This week – 3 November 1306

Hugh Oliphant, ‘a Scottish rebel’, escaped from the prison at Colchester Castle, along with William Sauvage, and took refuge at Barking Abbey. Edward I wrote to the abbess there and commanded that they ‘be safely watched there and prevented escaping’.
